Synology DS720+ Setup: An Intelligent Way to Manage Files
Synology DS720+ is a good option to secure and manage all the files at one portal. But, this will be possible only if you setup the hardware components of the NAS device. After that, you can install DSM with web assistant via the Synology login URL. The tools and parts before Synology DS720+ setup are as follows:
- A screwdriver (needed for 2.5” drives only)
- One SATA drive (2.5” or 3.5”)
How to Set Up Synology DS720+ NAS?
The steps to install the DSM720+ are mentioned below. Before getting started, we would like you to know that if you attempt to install a drive containing data, your system will format the drive and erase the data. Thus, you should back up the important data before the installation process.
Installing Drives
The first step is to install drives. Thus, first of all, remove the drive tray and load the drive in drive tray. For that, you will have to remove the fastening panels from the drive tray sides and place the 2.5” or 3.5” drives. Insert the fastening panels back. Now, you should insert the loaded drive tray into the empty drive tray and push it back. The tray will be locked into its place. Just in case you are planning to create a RAID volume, it is recommended to install drives having identical size so that you can make the best use of drive capacity.
Start Up the DSM720+ NAS
Now, this process is very similar to powering up DSM7.2. Thus, you should connect the NAS to your switch, router, or hub with the help of an Ethernet cable. The next thing in line is to connect the power adapter to the NAS and then to the power outlet. Look for the power button the NAS and press it. This will turn on the NAS. However, it will be detached from the network computer.
Add Memory Modules to NAS
You can also add memory module to your NAS in order to expand the memory. However, this option is completely optional. To install a memory module, you need to shut down your DSM 720+ and remove two hard drive trays from two bays. You will find an empty memory slot on the inner right side of NAS. Now, you have to install the new module into the empty slot. After that, insert the drive trays back into the drive trays. Switch on the NAS now.
Just to be sure that your NAS has recognized the new memory capacity; you need to install DSM and login using admin as a user. Go to Info Center via Control Panel and check the Total Physical Memory. Thereafter, you can install M.2 NVMe SSD to your NAS by removing slots and putting them to their places by inserting the SSDs.
Install DSM with Web Assistant
Now, the last thing you have to do is to install the DSM with web assistant. The process is very easy. For that, power up the NAS and open an internet browser on a PC that is connected to the same network as NAS. Now, find synology using find.synology.com or synologynas:5000. This will launch the web assistant on your web browser and the status of your NAS will be “Not Installed” here. Click Connect and follow on-screen instructions to set up the NAS completely.

This wraps up the guide explaining how to complete Synology DS720+ setup. It is now expected that with the help of the information provided in the post, you will be able to set up hardware components of the DiskStation and then also manage it using the find.synology.com URL.
